چکیده

Electron-stimulated desorption of F and Cl from submonolayer CF2Cl2-covered Ru(0001) is strongly affected by coadsorption of polar molecules (H2O and NH3) and nonpolar rare-gas atoms (Xe, Kr, and Ar). Giant anionic enhancements (up to 102-104) are observed for polar molecules, which are several orders of magnitude higher than by nonpolar atoms. The giant enhancements are attributed to enhanced dissociation of CF2Cl2 by attachment of self-trapped electrons in polar molecules. [S0031-9007(99)09120-6]

Phonon- versus electron-mediated desorption and oxidation of CO on Ru(0001)

Heating of a ruthenium surface on which carbon monoxide and atomic oxygen are coadsorbed leads exclusively to desorption of carbon monoxide. In contrast, excitation with femtosecond infrared laser pulses enables also the formation of carbon dioxide. The desorption is caused by coupling of the adsorbate to the phonon bath of the ruthenium substrate, whereas the oxidation reaction is initiated by...

Adsorption of intact methanol on Ru(0001).

Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy has been used to study the adsorption of methanol on the clean Ru(0001) surface at T<or=80 K. Thereby, clear evidence for intact adsorption has been found. This observation contradicts previous studies which suggested an OH (OD) bond scission upon adsorption of methanol on Ru(0001), even at low temperatures, as well as partial recombinative des...

An Improved Correlation for Second Virial Coefficients of Pure Fluids

In the present work, a modified correlation is presented for the second virial coefficients of both polar and nonpolar fluids based on the corresponding states principle. The second virial coefficients of gaseous polar and non-polar compounds were calculated and compared with experimental data and with other correlations. Comparisons with the existing correlations show that the present work is ...

Nanoscale Effects on Heterojunction Electron Gases in GaN/AlGaN Core/Shell Nanowires

The electronic properties of heterojunction electron gases formed in GaN/AlGaN core/shell nanowires with hexagonal and triangular cross sections are studied theoretically. We show that at nanoscale dimensions, the nonpolar hexagonal system exhibits degenerate quasi-one-dimensional electron gases at the hexagon corners, which transition to a core-centered electron gas at lower doping. In contras...

Electrosorption and catalytic properties of bare and Pt modified single crystal and nanostructured Ru surfaces

The electrosorption and catalytic properties of bare and Pt modified Ru(0001) and Ru(10−10) single crystal surfaces and carbon supported Ru nanoparticles have been studied by electrochemical, surface X-ray scattering, scanning tunneling microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy techniques. The electrochemical surface oxidation of Ru...
